Soul Train Meets Common Core
This workshop provides participants with an innovative way to reinforce language arts and math concepts using the artistic modalities of creative movement and dance. As part of the workshop, participants are exposed to (1) research explaining why creative movement/dance enhances learning and retention (2) creative movement elements which provide a language framework for the activity, (3) specific strategies that can be used for successful implementation of the activity (4) connections to the multiple intelligences and brain compatibility, and (5) intersections with math and common core standards.
Urban Line Dance Steps Into Language Arts and Math
This workshop provides participants with a fun and creative way to reinforce language arts and math concepts using the artistic modalities of creative movement and dance. Using dance framework from popular urban line dances, participants are exposed to (1) research explaining why creative movement/dance enhances learning and retention (2) creative movement elements and concepts providing language parameters for the activity, (3) specific strategies that can be used for successful implementation of the activity (4) connections to brain compatibility, and (5) intersections with language arts and math common core standards. Teachers are actively involved as they engage in hands-on exploration and practice encompassing critical thinking, decision-making, and reflection. The workshop also provides opportunities to test out a variety of language arts and math concepts as well as specific adaptations and extensions that might be used for special populations and other environments.
Dancing through the Decades: Entry to Social Studies, Language Arts, and Math
Dances from the 1920s-1980s are not only catalysts and springboards for rich explorations into historical content, but also provide a rigorous centerpiece to examine a plethora of math and language arts ideas. With this in mind, the workshop provides participants with an innovative way to introduce and reinforce social studies, language arts, and math concepts using the artistic modalities of dance and creative movement. Participants are introduced to (1) research explaining why creative movement and dance enhances learning and retention (2) creative movement/dance concepts (body, energy, space, time, relationship) that provide language parameters for the activity, (3) specific strategies that can be used for successful implementation of the activity, and (4) intersections with social studies, language arts, and math common core standards. Teachers are actively involved as they engage in hands-on exploration and discovery.
Motivation Marathon: Building Morale and Teamwork through Dance and Creative Movement
Through movement chants, dance games, circle dances and line dances, participants engage in activities designed to raise morale and strengthen teams. Excellent for school/college faculties, college leaders, or corporate staff.
Line and Social Dance: Frameworks for Life Skills and Leadership
Using social dance and urban line dance, participants explore basic communication, collaboration, problem solving, and leadership skills essential for 21st century living. Perfect for college audiences!
